It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have already been conquered.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

That it took until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's challenging for their hitters to maintain a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy being given a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her debut and seven world titles have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

Whether this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Some will argue the reasoning behind final game tension. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in the nets, it's been a disappointing period because it appeared I lacked timing completely," stated Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your competitive instincts activate and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there Healy was underway.

"The possibility to play and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

Once she was dismissed Australia required another 66 at run per delivery - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we know we can do it."

Those words will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this tournament want to hear.

During the last week a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this triumph succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing despite the injury.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is likely to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as leader.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
